John Widmann has been the Director of Music and Organist for Frederick Presbyterian Church since December of 2005. As Director of Music, he directs the Chancel Choir and the Handbell choir, and plays the organ for all services. He hails originally from Chambersburg PA and holds a bachelor's degree in organ and voice from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. At IUP, he studied organ with Dr. Carol Teti. Mr. Widmann currently is completing his Masters Degree at Towson University , also in music.

In addition to his position at Frederick Presbyterian Church, Mr. Widmann is also City Carillonneur for the City of Frederick, Maryland, a position that he has held for 14 years. As City Carillonneur he plays recitals on the Joseph Dill Baker Carillon every Sunday at noon . After studying carillon at the Washington Cathedral in Washington DC with James Saenger, Mr. Widmann passed his examination recital in 1996 and attained carillonneur membership in the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America . During the week he teaches piano, voice, carillon and organ privately.

Mr. Widmann lives in Frederick with his wife, Diane, and their sons, Hans and Martin. When he is not making music, he can often be found in a tan and green uniform being an Assistant Scoutmaster at Frederick Elks Troop 1998 of the Boy Scouts of America.
