Rev. Eric T. Myers The Rev. Dr. Eric T. Myers has been the Pastor of Frederick Presbyterian Church since September 2006. Before serving in this position he served churches in Virginia and North Carolina.
Originally from Hopewell, Virginia, Eric first entered the ministry of the church as a director of music and organist before entering seminary at Columbia Theological Seminary (M.Div., 1991) in Decatur, Georgia. Continuing his study in the area of worship, he completed a second masters degree in liturgical studies at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana (2003). Eric furthered his studies in the area of worship and preaching at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois where he graduated in 2006 with the Doctor of Philosophy degree.
Eric is the co-author of The Work of the People: What We Do in Worship and Why (Alban, 2007), a guide to help congregations and worship committees think about the worship of the church.
He is also a frequent contributor to Homily Service, a quarterly resource for preachers. Dr. Myers has taught worship and preaching classes at Garrett in Evanston and currently serves as an adjunct professor of worship at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. He also serves the larger church by being on the planning team and serving as leadership on several national worship and music conferences. Rev. Myers is also on the hymnal committee of the Presbyterian Church (USA) which is preparing a new hymnal.
Married to Lisa Nurenberger Myers, they have three daughters: Elizabeth, Anna Scott and Sarah.
Eric's ministry emphases are several but include worship that is active and participatory for all, and a congregation that is mission focused.
John Widmann
John Widmann has been the Director of Music and Organist for Frederick Presbyterian Church since December of 2005. As Director of Music, he directs the Chancel Choir and the Handbell choir, and plays the organ for all services. He hails originally from Chambersburg PA and holds a bachelor's degree in organ and voice from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. At IUP, he studied organ with Dr. Carol Teti. Mr. Widmann currently is completing his Masters Degree at Towson University , also in music.
In addition to his position at Frederick Presbyterian Church, Mr. Widmann is also City Carillonneur for the City of Frederick, Maryland, a position that he has held for 16 years. As City Carillonneur he plays recitals on the Joseph Dill Baker Carillon every Sunday at noon. After studying carillon at the Washington Cathedral in Washington DC with James Saenger, Mr. Widmann passed his examination recital in 1996 and attained carillonneur membership in the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America. During the week he teaches piano, voice, carillon and organ privately.
Mr. Widmann lives in Frederick with his wife, Diane, and their sons, Hans and Martin. When he is not making music, he can often be found in a tan and green uniform being an Assistant Scoutmaster at Frederick Elks Troop 1998 of the Boy Scouts of America.
